I am so heartbroken by the magnitude of the tragedy. Edwin Valero was irrefutably the most exciting boxer around. He was the future of boxing, counts legions of fans from all over the world. I am so sad. His kids end up with no parents. The Bolivian state of Venezuela could have done more to prevent such unspeakable tragedy. It’s a loss for his family, Venezuela and the boxing community the world over. Like Michael Jackson, despite his immense talent, he was not able to exorcise his ubiquitous and raging demons.

People who hang themselves think its a quick death. It is not unless the fall is long enough to break the neck. Valero died a slow, agonizing death from strangulation unable to free himself once he realized what he had done. It happens so often this way in prison. Great boxer but like Monzon, a flawed, violent individual. A tragic and fitting end

I dont care how “exciting” this guy was in the ring, the fact is he was a despicable human being who had demons he could not control. He killed his wife, now he leaves his children without any parents
I feel for those poor children and the wasted life of Valero’s wife

This is a tragedy for both Valero and his wife. He obviously had demons and realised the magnitude of what he had done.
He was a great, if troubled, fighter and really did have fans the world over (I write this from the UK).
RIP Edwin and Yennifer.

I met Valero ,he was a good friend to me. He was Training in the same gym as me in Tokyo, Jap. All I have to say is that he inspired to be the best of what I can do,which is to box. He once said to me in spanish ” IF YOU WANT TO BOX YOU”ll GONNA HAVE TO PUT ALL OF YOUR HEART INTO IT “. I looked up to him. Shocked to see what he did and very upset, I will still take his advice. R.I.P. Edwin Valero “Que Dios lo perdone Pana y que lo bendiga”

Edwin Valero was the modern day boxings biggest hope!
Its unclear who killed his wife but i can see that some “not so smart” people make hasty conclusions anyway. Everything can just as well have been a setup against valero.
Deserves death??? …Maybe its you hasty conclusioners who deserves death!?
RIP Edwin Valero

I wonder if there is any more to this story. How can a champion of his caliber do such things!
What would have been if he would have received his license in the USA?
If all is true then, I’m sad to hear it. Sad for Wife, children and family.

unbelievable, what a waste, all that talent and ability he was given, could have had a great life for him and his family. I would assume he had severe mental problems and from what Ive read he has had problems in the past and of course everyone around him was probably an enabler and no one wanted to say anything to him. Just the fact of how he killed himself shows how insane he was.

I encountered the man at the Austin airport after he had just knocked out Pitaloua…he was gracious enough to grant me a photo with him as his wife and kids awaited patiently for this fan to ask him whether he would fight marquez or pac man…he answered that he would move up in weight just as pac did if thats what it took…later I viewed his post fight interviewed as he described a monster from the philipenes that he wanted to meet in the ring to demonstrate to the world that “latinos” have talent aswell…I would read about his encounters with the law…domestic violence and alchohol related problems but I never thought this man would kill his wife in a crime of passion…I would never have thought he would take his own life because he was a fighter his whole life…yet now that all this has set in…I can only say prayers for his sons that live on , his wife and El Incas soul….We who believe in the soul shall pray for these souls

What a sad day for boxing to lose such a great talent. In my opinion he was the best out there his record spoke for itself. My prayers and thoughts go out to his wifes family and his children may God be with them in this time of tragedy. We all have inner demons we have to fight and some are apparently to hard to defeat, the only match Valero couldn’t handle. R.I.P.

It amazes me how sad everyone is that he is dead, because he was such a great boxer. Pathetic. He was a loser of a human being, mentally unstable, and a murderer. Who cares how great a boxer he was? That’s secondary. He killed his wife. The only saving grace was that he killed himself, to save his country from paying for his incarceration. And what about his children he left behind?

His attitude among drugs was covered up for some Venezuelan authorities… who led him to kill his wife. Luckly he did not kill anyone else.
RIP to his young and Innocent wife.

Edwin Valero i believe only took care of his body(physically) properly. Maybe because his so busy in boxing and probably busy of some extra activity in his private life.So busy He dont have a time to bring His Family to the Church every Sunday at least could’ve some spiritual reminders or maybe his parents didnt teach Him how to pray and go to the Church and maybe Edwin himself is simply an unbeliever. There are two sides of the coin as we all know. And in life we have to take care of our physicall Body in as much if not most significantly we have to take care of our MIND/SOUL as well. We Pray for Gods mercy for the Souls of Edwin and Jennifer. God Bless…..

Im the nephew of former world champion Joey Gamache. I just want to say that I had no idea he had died up until yesterday when I was at the gym hitting the bag and someone mentioned him. My grandfather said he was dead. I was stunned and stopped my whole workout to question what had happend. Just to know that we lost THAT FIGHTER truly is a sad thing. It is sad that he made the choice to do what he did. It’s never okay to take your own life. But he killed his wife, so he took his own. Its not commendable, nor is it justifiable. But in a way, he served his wife’s justice for what he did. He obviously regretted what had happend. It sucks this all went down. Too bad we lost what could have been one of the best fighters of this era.
