How are pound for pound boxers ranked? By wins? knockouts? win-KO ratio? I was sure it had to do something with knockouts but at times it doesn't seem to be necessary.

I think that they are rank on how many wins they had. If they have some knockouts then they are given more rank. I never did see anyone with more lost than wins get a good rank.

Personally, I look at the pound-for-pound rankings like this: My number # 1 Pound-For-Pound boxer is the guy that dominates his weight class MORE, when compared to another fighter dominating his weight class and who has faced the better, overall quality opposition. Wins, Losses & KO's are taking into consideration as well.

This is a subject of much debate and opinion as the term "pound 4 pound" is just that- a term used to describe a fighters value. But the catch is that since its radically a fan base ranking- (outside of sanctioning bodies), = the ranker is is free to rank accordingly based on individually determined criterion!....whether it be based on skill, dominence ,belt aquasition, opponent resume', undisputed status, weight class span, belt unification, popularity , KO record, ect...ect.....-the fact is that were ever you go you will see "pound 4 pound" lists of varying agreeability and concurrence.
